Why don't you slap it on your camera and shoot with it exclusively for a while. If you have fun doing it and realize, "oh I forgot how great this lens is" you should keep it. If not, sell it.

Yeah do this!

There was awhile where I thought about selling my 28 1.8. Then there were a few times where I walked around with just my 28 1.8 and it really changed my attitude towards it.

I had sort of the opposite experience with the fifty nifty. Used it a little on my 550D a long while back, thought it was a cool lens with the shallow DOF and what not. Then tried using it indoors, but had to resort to manual AF cause it wasn't focusing well. A few days ago I went out for a walk with it on my 5D Mark II and there's a huge (bad) difference in AF between it and USM lenses, it's still soft in the center, and the bokeh is getting uglier and uglier. Even the focal length isn't all the exciting.

Its only saving grace is I got it for 100 bucks, so I don't know how worthwhile it is to try selling.

So... keep or sell 85L II?

Sell it if your not going to use it. Then get the 24L II

You know, I sure would love to walk around and shoot with my 85L II IF I could walk ;) ;) I only had a few weeks to use it untill the accident in Hawaii. Now all the portrait work I do at home in my studio, I reach for 70-200 IS II and it seems like my 85L’s just been sitting there not being used.
Back when I had a chance to use it, I had doubts I’ll be using it wide open a lot. I constantly had to stop down to f/2.0 to have things in focus...
I’m not saying its soft at 1.2, in fact, it’s REALLy sharp at 1.2. It’s just that a lot of times I had to stop it down to have more things in focus.
Hard to say whether I’ll keep it... You folks help me out, for those who have/ had it :)

Send it to me and I'll keep it safe for awhile. Give you a chance to find out whether you miss it or not.

Well keep it for now. Keeping it another couple weeks isn't going to kill the value. :p

Wait until you can get out with it for awhile and see if you really like it.

Pssh... don't listen to those fools. They are the same fools who would consider selling an 85L.

Oh wait...

On the other hand... a 4.8 is a different story

 Just kidding.

With the 24L? Hmm... seems like people always have AF issues with every lens. Maybe they should learn how to use that fancy schmancy micro adjust.

Those reviews aren't worth basing anything off of.

Professional reviews are much more useful and then find forum based reviews. Those store reviews are generally a couple of people who like the product, and then the people who have issues they post despite being a small percentage. At least on forums and such you will have people from both sides coming out and talking about the product.
