I would not trust a drive that has been mailed around too much. Impact forces involved in shipping can drasticly adverse the life of a drive.
So I am a little courious, this is a book right? I have never written a book but I am courious why it takes up 10GB. Most books I read are largely text, which take up very little space. Even pictures I can't imagine taking up that much space because book pages aren't exactly huge so even at 300dpi the image files would not be that big...
Its a book of knitting patterns so the book is probably 50% full color bleed 8x10 prints, or if it's a two page spread it has to be 300dpi 19" wide. Each file is 36MB (files saved out at 19" on the long end), and for some "items" have 3 shots, and for some I have 6 from various angles for them to see what works best within the layout of the page. For example if I designed a hat:
1 "money shot" as I call it from the front kid smiling, full body
1 head shot
1 crown shot of the top so customers can see how it was constructed
1 possible detail shot
and sometimes those shots above I will provide 1 vertical and 1 horizontal. For lifestyle/editorial shots I may turn in 20 pics. They said the book would have 180 shots IN it as an estimate, so I had to of course provide a bit more so they had some options.
The book has 43 individual patterns in it. The text for the patterns can take 2 pages or 5 pages, depending. It then also has lifestyle and editorial content and graphic schematics and charts when needed.
