So I found a minty minty 1Dmk4 with less than 500 clicks for 4.3K out of the door - like $500-$600 in taxes ;( guess nobody can run away from it.

I have 7D, 5D2 and will be buying for sure the 5D3 for:

- AF
- High ISO
- Small body + light weight ( for long day shooting )
- Same battery type
Then sell the 5D2 after.

Now why am I tempting on this 1Dmk4?
- I never had a pro-build body, so always wanted to try one.
- AF
- High ISO shooting.
- The 1.3x reach for event/street candid/wild life/bird shooting.
- Maybe this is the last crop pro-body from Canon.

I shoot everything but mainly Studio/Portrait/Boudoir, Event/ Street candid, Birds, Wild life. So the combi of 7D and 5D2 is excellent. 5D2 for studio and 7D for the rest.

I know 4.3K is not a very good deal at the moment but a very nice mint condition may be hard to find.

Do you think how much the price of those **Minty with very low shutter count 1Dmk4** is going to drop after the release of the 1DX?

It's still a used camera. If you get one from the forum with a little bit higher shutter count and save that $500-600 for a new shutter in 3-4 years, would it be a better deal? I see a few in high $3k's.

Part of me really wants the 1D4 but the other part wants the new Fullframe :)

The advantages of the 1D4 would be:
-Build
-Faster fps
-1.3x Crop, if you need the "reach"
-Form factor with the built-in grip

Otherwise, I would get the 5D3.

If you're spending that much then consider the 5d3. Ebay has been selling many of the 1d4's for the 3k range since the 5d came out.

Here is one that sold for 3,200 dollars with 56k clicks.

500 clicks is nothing on a 300k rated shutter and thats a very good price. they are still new for 5G's and it is an awesome camera...i paid 4500 for mine brand new from a member here last month.

I would not. the adantages actually would be f8 autofocus, built, and fps. the reach advantage is very small, as the 5d3 has 13.2 for the area cropped to 1d4 sensor vs 16. If you really want to add reach, keep the 7d. would sell 5d2, unless you do weddings/events, and want 2 FF bodies.

Yeah i know. Taxes add a lot to that initial 3.7K price.
Maybe I will wait for the 1DX to be released and see how the prices would go at that time.

If your going to get a 5D3,, an MKIV--5D3 would be an awesome combo. In addition to what nick already mentioned, MKIV has a 300K rated shutter and its built like a tank. 5D3 and MKIV images are virtually identical up to 12000 ISO...no one will be able to tell which camera took the shots if you compared an MKIV and a 5D3 side by side. Anyone that says they can is wishful thinking.

So its really in your corner to make a decision. The more i use mine, the more i would never part with it. After seeing Nicks reviews and others on the 5D3, its the combo im leaning towards. I was going to hold out for the 1Dx, but the 5D3 look very good and files from the MKIV exceed my expectations. 5D3 files are virtually identical so now that its has a great AF system, its really personal choice which way to go.......Both will do an outstanding job. Looks like either camera is a winner from my point of view. The build of the MKIV is difficult to beat. By the time you factor a grip (if you use them) there is going to be about a 1000.00 difference in price for a new one.

OP. The one your looking at is like new. 500 clicks is nothing.....your looking at a 400.00 difference. If you offer him $4100.00 hes going to take it. Refirbs from canon,, If you can get one,, are 3900.00 from canon. The one i got had 297 on the shutter count.

This very topic is keeping me up at night....

After using a 1D2, and then a 1Ds1, I don't know if i could spend so much..(I'm not going there here...)

every single of my best shots ever taken came from a 50mm F1.8 lens and a 1D2, shot wide open with no post...

I suppose I could 'deal" with the 1.3x crop of one of the foremost cameras today..

I just picked up a low shutter count mark iv with an extra LP-e4 and the remainder of a three year Mack warranty for $3400. Prices are coming down. I also came from a 7d and the image quality is truly amazing!

I see a few very good/excellent condition 1d4s on ebay for around $3800-4000.
That's a savings of $1000-1200 over new. But of course being used it comes with risk. And there's no Canon warranty.

At this price point, I'd rather pay the extra money and get a new camera with Canon's warranty. But that's just me. Besides, I love that new camera smell ;)

Hey guys... check my math, but there's no crop/reach advantage for the 1D4. Image of 5D3 at 22.3 cropped to APS-H = 17.2. Therefore, it still out-pixel 1D4's 16.1 - pretty even I'd say.
