I shoot nightlife photography on behalf of a company and the issue is people are cropping out our watermark which is used as a marketing tool for the club. How do you guys watermark your images in order to prevent this

I shoot for a magazine don't believe in watermarking as it ruins the photo. That's just my thoughts....

I don't shoot for a magazine, its for night club promotional purposes. I also believe that water marks ruin images, however I'm getting paid so just following orders.

In order to not ruin the image the water mark must be placed in an area that is easy to crop out, in order to make it harder to crop out the water mark it would have to be placed over a crucial part of the image ... in turn making the image unusable.

This is why it's not easy to be a pro photographer today unless you shoot people. For anything else people can simple "google image" things and use any photo already on the web. I agree watermarking ruins photos because you have to cover the image but anything else and your image will be used. People even use my videos on YT for other stuff. It can be frustrating.

Make it a point to let others freely SHARE (not use commercially) your images ONLY with Watermark intact. It's all you can do just ask Video guys what they have had to endure with people re-sampling, editing or whatever to remove logos and branding. There is no method or format you can use to prevent someone who wants it bad enough from taking it. If you let people share lower rez they are spreading your brand and more likely to leave your mark intact

Watermark the whole thing nobody will care to view it. If you watermark the subject someone will clone it out. Simple watermark in the corners will just be cropped which is pointless. So you really can't win other then C&D and paying the lawyers/hounds to protect you. Years ago people tried using flash galleries or disabling right click but that will only stop the people who probably don't want to steal it anyway.
