After thrashing around wildlife refuges for a weekend, I hit a city park where the subjects are happy to pose and for once I can get close to enough!

Wigeon

Female Scaup? (not sure on the ID here)

and good old Mallard

Thanks for looking. Critique and comments always welcome.

Good series and nice use of light. I like the first one the best.

It's funny cm that sometimes the best subjects are right under our noses.
I really like the Wigeon and the male Scaup. Both of those images are very well composed and have beautiful detail.
Now you'll have to frequent that park some more!

What a wonderful Wigeon Chris! The others are nice as well and yes, I would think you have a Lesser Scaup. I'm confident only because of a critical assessment on one of my own just the other day.

Good for you that all of the ducks at the park are willing to pose. Most anything other than Mallards, Gulls and House Sparrows are people shy down at my haunt, our City Pier.

Nice shots! I live on a farm in an area surrounded by lakes, rivers and marshes, have several wetlands and ponds on my property, and several boats. There are lots of waterfowl around, but I've made several trips to urban areas to specifically photograph waterfowl...you can't beat acclimatized birds as subjects.

Thanks for the kind notes - I'm partial to the wigeon myself. It kind of lacks the 'thrill of the hunt' for me, going to a city pond where people are throwing bread out to the ducks, but I'll take it!
