Huntington Beach Surfing Competition

Surf City hosted their annual Vans Pier Classic Surfing Competition. Big names Pro-AM showed up to compete. It was rough to shoot this event due to the windy condition blowing @ 25mph along with the hazy sky but the surfers are all stoked because the swell is up reaching up times to 10 footers. It was a struggle to find a good exposure. All these were shot manual mode with my trusty 40D, the beastly 400 F2.8L MKII and a 1.4xII.

Nice work as usual, sure was a great weekend for surfing, although I could have done without all the wind Sunday. I struggled with exposure as I noted in my post, still trying to figure it all out but having a blast in the meantime.

Thanks. What a terrible condition we had last weekend. Aside from the gusty wind, choppy waters, hazy condition I find myself constantly wiping my lens because of the salty spray from the ocean breeze. The frothy waters made is so impossible to get the right exposure even when set to manual mode. It's a struggle but fun to shoot these Pro-AM's nonetheless.

^^ I noticed that as well and dunno why. I remember one surfer who was wearing red was near at the end when I took this shot.

We missed you out there Butch....it would probably made it worse for you as it was really gusty, dry, cold and all that. Hope you feel better.

Thanks. The next event is the Nike 6.0 at San Clemente on May 1-5 and you can always The Wedge is quiet once again and HB, you can check the swell forecast here...

oooops I should have said right side. It is weird how its only on one side though.
