Took these and a few others on AUTO and they seem flat, i cant see much vibrant colour.

Does the camera look off? or is it my eyes and screen.

Anybody else think they are off?

because you're in the green box. learn to shoot in manual. you may suck at first but it's worth it.

if you shoot in Auto, it's like buying a high end Point&Shoot camera.

Thanks but was just trying it out in AUTO and noticed this and thought if that setting is out surely if i ever use same in MANUAL it will replicate. So if bad in AUTO figures same in MANUAL, no?

hi Danny, there are different shooting styles/profiles in the camera you can choose that can have effect on saturation and contrast etc but that applies to straight out of camera jpegs, a lot of amazing pictures you see are people shooting raw and doing post production themselves, "editting it to their liking" so to speak (sorry for a lack of better term), whereas SOOC jpegs are editting done by the camera itself, so can be a bit of hit/miss pending on what the camera believes gives the best result

also looking at your first pic for example it looks like it was shot in harsh midday-ish sun, which does not help you getting a good picture, picking the right time of the day and light to shoot is very important as well

Thanks can shoot MANUAL and RAW but just got the thing and zipped that out, was in bright sun so i guess thats the answer. Got some great indoor shots with it but my outdoor trials have been really weird, both settings different lens combos too. Will just carry on and see what comes.

Yes if you use the exact same settings in manual you will get the same result - but you don't use manual mode to get the same settings!

As mentioned, changing picture profiles alone will make a big change in how your pictures look - if you are shooting in JPEG.

when i say shooting styles if you go into menu you can find option to choose like "landscape" or "portrait" styles etc in which the camera applies different amount of contrast and saturation to the image, not like manual or aperture/shutter priority mode etc

Shooting in Manual is like Driving a car with stick shift. You're the boss of the camera.

There is something strange going on, and I can't rule out it even being my own monitor (laptop screen) although pictures I have taken with my own 60D look fine. I wonder if the effect below is apparent on a larger monitor.

Anyway, open the attached PDF and look along the bottom edge of the image at the areas where I have arrows. Then follow with your eye vertically upward. At least on my monitor I detect a variance in focus along the vertical lines as marked. Almost like a vertical ripple. In the picture of the church a similar effect can be noticed although not quite so evident. [added comment] Actually now that I've posted this and looked at my PDF, I see a similar pattern running horizontal.

Any chance you have a really cheap filter on the lens? If so, perhaps worth a retest without the filter.
