I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place but without knowing technical terms I figured this was a good place to start.

At my local mall there was a photographer shooting Easter pictures for the kids. He had what appeared to be an antenna controlling the two soft boxes he was using for lighting. Also, he would take the pictures and you would walk about 50ft away to where he had the station setup where you pick the shots you like and pay for the prints.

My questions are what is the wireless device called that wirelessly controlled the flash and what did he use to send the pictures so quickly and wirelessly?

All I know is that he was shooting Nikon and I saw a little square white box that had the Apple logo on it and all the stuff at the pay station was Apple as well.

Is this something I can get for Canon?

Probably pocket wizards for the flashes and a wireless transmitter for the files. Yes, you can get them for Canon.

The "antenna" is a wireless transmitter that controls the flashes. There are many different kinds and you can get them for Canon, Sony, Nikon, etc

Some newer cameras have a transmitter built in. But if not, there are solutions for every budget. If you are a paid pro and need reliability then Pocket Wizard or Radio Popper are two popular brands. If your just an enthusiast that wants to try off camera flash cheaply, Yongnuo is one brand that's inexpensive ( I have their rf-602rx receiver and rf-600tx transmitter ).

There are now memory cards with built in wifi. I don't have a need, so I don't know how much more they cost.

Yes, I am just a beginner who would like to have the option for off camera flash if I so desire. Thanks for the Yongnuo recommendation.
