As Springtime has progressed these birds are becoming less and less bothered by my presence and have finally allowed me to capture both genders. Some of you may recognize the "habitat" in which these were captured. There's also a twist at the end!

Female

And the Male.

Sibley mentions a White-eyed variant supposedly confined to the Southeastern US. Although the eye is definitely not red, it almost looks pink to me. See what you think.

I hope you've enjoyed this series and will feel comfortable enough to leave comments and criticisms. Thank you for looking through them.

You one lucky man! :D It's hard for me to find one Towhee, let alone a pair. Congrats on getting beautiful images of the Mister and Missus. She is GORGEOUS! I really like #3. The flower setting in the last one is awesome! Great work as usual Steve. :D

Beautiful, gorgeous shots, Steve! Hard to tell about the eye color, the second last is quite red, maybe the light is affecting the tint in your last image. And what BIG eyes they have!

Excellent set of towhees... such unique colored bird and a joy to observe... all the images are great, but that third image of the female is my favorite, lovely detail.

What a great looking pair of birds. I like the habitats you captured them in very much. All are nicely done Steve, but that third shot is special. I look forward to more photos as more and more birds get used to you!

Such beautiful birds. Although I think, like I do with the Cardinals, that the female is the prettiest of the two. Image #3 stands out for me, but all are wonderful. This is a great set, Steve.

Steve,
#3 and #8 for me--great DOF on both, nice BG and bokeh, sharper/slightly more in focus than the rest of the set on my monitor. Will look forward to more... :)

Thank you Fee for your nice compliments. These guys/gals are all over my neighborhood so it was just a matter of time.

I appreciate it Ian very much. I'll have to go after the last guy again and get better lighting. Don't know the genetics, but maybe it's a hybrid?

I'm glad you liked them Dave and thanks as always for the nice comments. #3 seems to be the consensus pick.

Very much appreciated Levina. The colors of both males and females are striking, and have proven to be quite the exposure challenge. I always keep you in mind when doing black and white birds - :)

Thanks for the kind words Bret. I'm not sure I can spare these, but I'll send ya some that look just as good - ;). I know you'll capture them admirably.

Excellent set Steve, both of them very nicely captured. For some reason its only the male that I always see, I need to be on the look out for the females also :)
