The 100-400 would have trouble fitting, I'd think.

If you want to carry it, I'd suggest a backpack. Especially at that weight.

I think I have seen photos here with people carrying a 100-400 mounted on a camera, carried in an F2 If I remember correctly they had changed out the 4 lens insert for a 3 lens insert.

I would have no trouble carrying my camera with that lens attached in my F2 IF I added a Domke postal pad on the strap.

I definately plan on getting a postal strap.

I did look through the post your bag thread, and did see a poster have a 100 400 in there Domke, I think it was a Fx 1 but had to change insert. I think he put in a Tenba insert, and it did the job, but I am not 100% sure. Hope Jon see's this thread, I know he knows Domke's inside out and can make a few suggestions.

My inclination is that the Fx 7 , is a bit wider and taller than the Fx 1 and that may the right one, but I want to besure before I buy. Really not sure if the insert in Fx7 will do the job.

that would still be a tight fit for the f2..

Either the F1x or F7 Double AF, with the 720-230 insert and, of course, Post Office Pad. The F7 is deeper than the F1x, but not quite as long. If you want to carry the body/long lens combo vertically, get the F7, otherwise the F1x. I usually carry one of those two with 5d2/24-70 vertically in one end of the 720-230, 7D/100-400 horizontally in the main compartment, 15-30 Sigma in the mid compartment and the 70-200 2.8 IS in the other end compartment. Room for a flash, the RRS WPF-QR bracket (external link) and an OC-S2 in one end pocket, GPS and some batteries in the other, batteries under the 100-400 in the main compartment, filter wallet (half dozen up to 77 mm) in one front pocket and all sorts of other stuff in the other (cleaning stuff, allen wrench, LensPen, pencil, . . .). The F1x also has a nice pocket on the back that will take all sorts of stuff (I used to carry my Omnibook 800 in there) that most bags can't. So, my most-used bag is the F1x. Where the F7 shines is with longer lenses - it'll cope with the 300 f/4 vertically, which the F1x won't.

Quick question what insert comes with the fx 1

Looked at 720 230 its a 3 compartment system. Exterior Dimensions: 11"W x 2.5"D x 7.75" Do you have to use two sets of 720 230, as that would make it 5 deep, short by 1 1/2 in. and short at the wide end of bag, as insert is 11 and bag is 15.5 wide.
FX1 interdemensions are 15.5"W x 6.5"D x 8.5" H

do you add to existing insert that comes with FX1
are the compartments adjustable or fixed, if fixed how do you get a vertical and a horizontal in those compartments, as it looks as it will only go vertical. A little confused. Dont understand how it all gells together to get what you are describbing Jon. Need help understanding that.

The F1x and F2 come with the 720-240 4-compartment insert. I take those out and put the 720-230 in instead. I now have a mountain of unused 4-compartment inserts at home, dating back to the first, all-canvas, ones. The dividers in the current inserts are movable. The stuff that I put in horizontally isn't in the insert; it's in the main compartment of the bag. The 3 lenses in the insert are vertical.

I don't think they're deep enough . . . However, maybe as a separator while bringing the wine back from the store?

(after 25 or so years as owners of Golden Retrievers, we are venturing out this weekend to visit kennels of Cocker and Springer Spaniels, and perhaps a Golden breeder too. My first dog ever was a Cocker puppy named Crispy. He came in a Rice Crispy carton. )

Henry's has reduced the price of inserts! Frankly I am surprised.
