I met a guy this past weekend. He is a very good portrait photographer and we had a wonderful conversation and he recommended this to me. I have never seen this before but it is terrific. I thought this is the perfect thread to share this.

I like your image to Randy. A sense of peace and serenity. All the lines lead to the subject and the subject is centrally located which centered figures which helps give a sense of stability and reenforces the peacefulness. . I also like the G is repeated in reverse on the other side of the frame.

IMHO with my image I feel a sense of movement and energy in the couple engage in conversation. While the other couple are not engaged and quite detached from each other and the couple that are engaged in deep and comfortable conversation. So two couples in different situations. They are all attached through overlapping that didn't happen before the man raised his arms. No picture before that because all the elements were not connected visually. Now they are but the two on the left are in their own worlds yet everyone is still part of a whole.

I'm wondering if this is worth a metal print job...

:) Sounds like one of those conversations you'd hear at a Luguna Beach art show. Pass the wine please...

I'll need to work on my artistic thought process, my computer job has made me like Spock from Star Trek. That will be my New Years resolution.

It's the way we should all be evaluating work and what this thread should be all about. The more we speak the language the more fluent we become. Click on the link I posted in # 2163

Chauncey,

I personally don't like nature on metal. I think this shot would look wonderful on an Epson Exhibition Fiber Paper. I feel metal paper kind of fights the subtle tone of many nature photographs.

You can flush mount anything.
Chauncey there is no right or wrong answer I just am not a fan of metal or canvas. I do think that a more subtle paper/finish is the right way to go with nature.

All good principles. As an aside, it seems to me that the writer is preoccupied with the idea of being harmed. The concept of vulnerability shows up at the beginning, the end, and many points in between.

This was an exercise in finding the light and then waiting for the emotional content to enter the light:

By "overlapping," do you mean that the guy's arm is intruding on the space in the frame that "belongs" to the other two figures, thereby drawing them together as one?
My initial impression of this photo was that it works because all of the people in the frame are equally engaged in their activity of choice, and equally unconcerned with, or comfortably sheltered from, the cold snowy day outside the window.

chauncey i love that!
It is epically framed. I bet you couldn't believe it when it came out like that !?
With the man edited out though and just the tree and the birds, it may look more balanced
