Here is one, totally candid, but captured the moment quite well.

I like to capture the "spirit" of a person when taking candid portraits.

Those are the images I really enjoy.

Not a big fan of posed images, but you have to do what you have to do sometimes...

Background lets it down though.

I don't think the B/G is a distraction. Its there and I think its handled nicely.
On my monitor it does appears to be a bit dark and flat(could use a touch more contrast and lightened a bit).

Love the line into the subject and a good triangular composition. Nice moment captured.

I know 14 + min but time well spent. I like the part at the end where he is talking about Bresson working subconsciously (Nick :))

This one is hot off of the press.

Playing with tones, light and warmth.

^^Interesting contribution. To me, the composition of flowers is nice, but I don't think that as a straight colour shot it would particularly engage me. But the treatment you've given it slides it more into the "abstract", and for me it demanded, and elicited, a response. So the eye lingers instead of passing straight on, and consequently sees more than if it was a plain colour shot.

Which is really what this thread is about, I guess!

I just like the brooding feel, the calm before the storm if you will. The mental preparation and focus that goes into those few seconds before you step to the plate.

I dig the composition and the vibe. Except for the cars, this could have been just about any point in the last 80 years or so. I like how the first thing you notice is the one way sign and that leads you to the right edge and back and then you see the balcony and it leads you down the street. I had tried to get this photo a few times before but could never get it just right, like I saw it in my head. Finally did.

And the other part thats not helping in that regard (besides the cars) are the new style one way sign and the large sign on the balcony (10 digit phone #) but you have achieved an old fading, thiosulfate damaged kinda feel to the photograph..

Oh BTW I had one of the best Gator po boys I've ever eaten on the very balcony.

You should have seen the original. :-)

Your assessment was spot on.

Thanks for posting them here, really like the first one with the repeating elements. :-)

Here is one of mine. I was drawn to the face of this yearling zebra -it felt really soft and sweet. That was the feeling I was going for...

glad i found this thread - some awesome stuff in here..

This is one I did recently - I wanted it to be symmetrical with the light showing off the black/white details. Light is on the side to the left and illuminates the left side while creating shadows on the right. Also very shallow depth of field that is supposed to focus on the tips of the antlers.
