Not posed, just a quickly taken shot as I hurried to catch up with my lady as we walked the dogs last Sunday.

Beautiful light in this...

I just posted this on the lens and body associated with the image, but also wanted to post it here.

It is the compositional discussions on this thread and others that helped me formulate images such as this.

I love this, it immediately engages me, like the image is asking me something, the textures are excellent :)

Inspired by Minor White .

Heres one of Whites where he captured a light moment and MUCH better than I did.

These photos inspired me because the subject is light. I think thats light, shadow and shape are the subjects in my image. Thats what it is. Light, shadow and shape.

Yes, I see what you mean.

When I saw the Bullock pic I immediately thought of Degas' dancers. Not that the images are similar, but the sense of motion is there.

Thank you. Yes, it's those "moments of light" that makes us react...just as in your examples.

I like this one a lot - the contrast in complexity, both structurally and with regard to color palette, between the left and right sides of the frame coupled to the expression and mystery is great.

Yes, well it's obviously working....this is a lovely shot in every way. One to be treasured!

Thanks guys for all the support and encouragement.

This image feels like a watershed for me. :-)

Obviously I expect to grow and improve, but this is quite important a step in my progression...

Mark

I'm torn on this one. Or at least I ponder it when I look at it... Thoughts? Is it a mess or is it interesting?

Interesting, it has me questioning what it is without supplying an answer.

The focal point is strong and obvious.

But at the same time it is not confusing, hope that makes sense. :-)

I really like the implied sand dune type shape in this Allen.

The contrast is also very interesting.

What was your subject matter?

Nice Ricardo, a strong sense of environment on this, thoughtful. :-)

The subject is light, shadow and shape.

The light was coming through an open bathroom window projecting on a shower curtain.

sperho,

I think you image works well. The implied depth and the #28 near the edge of the frame works well. My only neg would be the OOF area top left but I'm not sure how you would get around it. Maybe a slight crop?

Thanks for the feedback. I tried rotating/cropping this thing every which way, but when I did so, it cut too far into the focal point (28) and it seemed to lose it's little bit of organization that it had to begin with. I need to revisit this sculpture and work with it a bit more to get a cleaner framing.

Ok, so the backstory: I was in Chicago and as those who have been there know, the traffic is brutal. It was raining and I just snapped this photo, having in my mind to process it like this later. My first thought was that I feel helpless when I look at it. You can't really make out much and if I was walking and this is what the world looked like, I would be afraid to take a step for fear of falling, etc. Anyway, a big city can do the same thing to a person, long story short.

The back story helps!

The outline of tall buildings in your image accentuates that 'big city blues' sort of feeling that many of us get as the traffic and the buildings and the rain press in on us. By focussing on the raindrops you have created a real 'detachment' that accentuates the feeling.

It's raining here in Nelson now and the day is bleak outside, so its easy to pick up the mood.
Thanks for posting.
