Just got the 300 2.8 IS MK2 last week and shot a period of AHL Hockey with it. For a professional arena, it is very poorly lit and I was at 2000 ISO (7D) 1/640@2.8. This is actually a step up as when I shoot at ice level through the glass I am at 2500 1/500@2.8 using the 70-200 2.8 IS MK2.

Nice work, level them up and they'd really rock.

They look really good. I shoot low light performance theater stuff all the time, and previously always hated to go about 1600 ISO. But with LightRoom 4 and a few other techniques in PhotoShop, I shoot at 3600 ISO all the time and not issues with grain. I then can move up to f4 and get more depth of field for multiple actors on stage. I would think would be the same for sports.

Most issues with grain occur in the deep blacks, I would think ice arenas, which are mostly white, would have even less issues shooting at 3200 ISO.

Using selections in PhotoShop with Topaz DeNoise 5 works really good at smoothing out any grainy areas with losing detail in the main subject.
