After I got home from shooting a sunset on the water from near my house, I spotted this guy on my driveway, and seeing as how I had a few shots left on the card I took a few pics. After looking at them on my computer I saw the eyes, and decided I should post it to see what other people thought.

Ok here is one of the first ones I shot, but I did not quite get the lighting right (flash is 'stuck' at full power so I have to manually adjust with my f/ stop and ISO):

Well, the second one was not really a shot I would normally consider good myself as it shows no evidence of good compostition at all and the lighting was bad (and the toad was just ugly from that angle), but it was more of a 'this is what it looked like' shot. The first is the one I actually spent some time on.

Great shot on #1 and really like the colors of the toad. #2 could easily be salvaged with some tighter cropping, imo.

That is a terrific shot of the toad's eyes! I never thought about them being gold. Nice macro work too!

Thanks everone, and cricket, I never thought they would be gold either. The flash helped to bring out the colors in the eyes much more than I thought. I have just started to experiment with flash and macro.

love seeing the toad and these shots
beautiful shape and 'expression'
you got the eye great
I love the whole shot showing his 'chin' , whatever
great to see it

it is a black spined toad...female
one of the world's most beautiful true toads and seldom far away from human habitations

never see frogs or toads here now like years ago
as it is a racehorse county I sometimes wonder were they done away with
(the frogs etc)

regards, Marie

Thanks for the I.D. marie, and for the comments. I was fairly luck as this guy did not seem to mind me being there at all, he only noticed I was there when I started using my flash, but even then did not go anywhere until after I was finished with my card, only a few pictures left on it :(, I wanted to try more but...
