I am looking for a recommendation for an arca-swiss compatible ball head for a Gitzo Traveler or Benro Angel tripod. A small and light ball head that will fit on the tripod with the legs closed, as well as be a decent ball head.

Ideally something in stock at B&H.

Heaviest combination would be a 7D and 70-200 2.8ISII.

Thanks,
Heath

I use a Markins Q3T on my Gitzo 1541T. I don't think B&H sell them, but you can get them
from Markins Directly http://www.markinsamerica.com/MA5/Q3T.php?req=Q3TSK (external link)

I have a Benro Travel Angel with a B-00 ball head. I'm about to order a B-0 head to put on my larger Giottos tripod so I don't have to keep switching plates on my camera bodies.

B&H has the B-0 for $140, but this Ebay seller (external link) has them for $80.

Not sold by B&H but probably the consensus choice on this forum is the Markins Q3T. It is small, light and extremely well made and finished, and was specifically designed for the Gitzo 1541T so that the legs would fold back over it properly. The pic below shows the Q3T with Benro C2680T legs folded back over it. The Benro leg sections have far larger diameters than the 1541T but the Q3T handles them easily. It's an excellent little ballhead and you can order it directly from Markins in Canada or a S. Korean eBay dealer.

I have a Markins Q3T and a Benro B-0. Both are good. The Markins' quick release works with more plates as I have found the Benro would not lock tight on a couple of off-brand plates I have. Otherwise, performance is very similar and I actually find the Benro to be a little more use friendly. YMMW.

I'm a fan of the Markins Q3t as well. Take a look hereto see how it works with the Feisol. It has a very narrow housing without a flange at the bottom which allows close placement of the legs to it. Despite the narrow housing, it has a 38mm ball, which is the largest of any of these travel ballheads. The larger the ball, the more stable is the camera and lens, without droop as you tilt it up or down.

I wouldn't worry that B&H doesnt handle it. Markins in Vancouver has excellent customer service.

Markins Q3T. Own it, love it. Heres my review of it on the Gitzo 1541T: LINK
