I just received my first L lens from B&H photo, and the IS is making some weird noise. My kit lens 18-135f/3.5-5.6 IS does not make any noise like this one does. Is this normal?

I couldn't figure out how to embed the video so here is the link-

Yes it is normal.

It seems that the exact same question pops up monthly....

Yep, mine sounds loud too. General rule of thumb is the bigger the lens, the louder the IS. Oh and if you start moving the lens around, it'll get even louder :)

Yep, makes a rattling sound. It is normal. May be noisy, but it sure works great!

Yup. Had the same concern myself. And I love this lens. Congratulations.

Yep, they are super loud. Lol, when I first got mine (now sold for Nikon switcheroo), I immediately went to the forums and did a search for 70-200 IS noise cuz I was concerned too lol.

This is a normal behaviour for this lens,
when it start and ends the IS,it will have some "Chii----------Chaa" sound

Also from the manual,it's not recommend to switch off the IS when the IS is operating

Beautiful and expensive lenses scream loud like that when you work them hard just like those hot, sexy, expensive ladies.
