Woodland Caribou

On a recent business trip I came across these two caribou heading for the trees. I managed to get a couple of shots; this seems to be the better one. I realize that the composition is not the best, but Out in the wilderness you don't always have a choice…

Been awhile since I've seen a woodland. Last ones were on film. Thanks for sharing. Nice pic.:)

Thanks for the comments and compliments. Photocopy, yes, they are belong to the same family:

So what is the difference between reindeer and caribou?

Essentially no difference, says Don Russell, manager of the Canadian Wildlife Service in the Yukon.

"The reindeer is just an Old World caribou," he says. "They are the same species, Rangifer tarandus."

In fact there is often more variation in appearance among different types of caribou than there is between certain types of reindeer and caribou, he adds.


Hope that helps. Either way, ours can be quite nervous and jumpy, as rick_reno hinted…
