i have understanding Flash photography by bryan peterson and notice he really only includes nikon flashes (there is lots of good info) but i just don't own a nikon flash unit so i was wondering if there was a canon specific book that is useful and got some good info.

thanks for any input!

Speedliters Handbook

The #1 recommendation in my books. Fantastic as a learning tool as well as a reference as needed!

thanks i will definitely pick it up as i like peterson's style but just bugs me that its nikon specific (and maybe that is because he makes the nikon system of flashes look so awesome and sadly the canon system of flashes not quite so lol)

thanks again for the recommendation!

"Speedliters Handbook" is my bible for canon flash photography. The best I seen for Canon gear.

Although its for weddings, I like David Ziser's book "Captured by the Light" for creative event flash photography.

If you haven't already and you have a couple of hours to kill, watch Syl's video and then get his book (Speedliter's Handbook).

I heard about the Speedliters Handbook about 2 months ago, found it on Amazon and had the intention to buy it a few days later (payday). Unfortunately, due to automatic Windows updates, my browser was closed and I forgot about it. I was just in Barnes and Nobles last week and saw the book... I flipped through the pages and it appears to be EXTREMELY detailed in terms of Canon Speedlites functionality, operation, also including on-location shooting. Unfortunately, I had just bought 2 other books and didn't want to add the $49 expense (B&N store price) at the time... so I too will be making this purchase soon :)

I use manual exposure settings on the copy machine

Snafu, if you get the book and are itching to get started, skip to chapter 11. Setting up the master (in your case, the 7D) and slaves, channels, groups, ratios, manual, they're all covered in exquisite detail.
