I recently got invited to be licensed by Getty Images Via Flickr. What exactly does this mean? I know that they are a stock photo agency but is it different from say Istock photo? Any enlightenment will be greatly appreciated :D

I got the flickr Getty invite as well and they sent me an Email with some of my images that they would like to sell. I had to upload high res versions and get releases for any people. They give you between 20-30% of the sale of the image. Getty is known to be a high quality stock photo company.

Really? That's terrible. I had lost track of where Getty was at these days, but I didn't realize they had sunk so low. If you want to avoid microstock (iStock and the likes), I think the best option right now is Alamy. They give 60%, and they let you choose whether you want to sell Rights-Managed or Royalty Free.

The only way you'll get reduced to 40% is if you opt in to the distributor scheme and you get sales through one of Alamy's distributors. Every contributor has the choice to be represented by Alamy distributors or not (it's a choice you make when you sign up, and you can opt out later if you change your mind). All sales directly through Alamy are paid out at 60%.

Alamy gives 60% but they sell roughly 1/20th as many images as Getty. So if you want money, Getty is your best bet.

Where did you get that figure? I've been quite happy with Alamy, getting a royalty per image online of about $8.60 per year. Quite respectable, I think. The contributors I know who do both Getty and Alamy make no such claim as you have.

[Edit: I just noticed from your signature that you're doing both. You're really getting 20 times the number of sales from Getty? Really? No exaggeration?]

Okay so I get invited to Getty then I went through the setup process. I'm only 18 and I have yet to pay taxes, should I just open a bank account to put the money into or do I have to present some type of tax form?

I just got this invitation, too -- does anyone have any experience with Getty? Did you make money? Is there any reason you WOULDN'T recommend this? Thanks for any more info.
