LCD - can it be trusted?

Hi

I have not seen this mentioned anywhere before, so this may be a problem just specific to me (after all, I am only a few weeks into digital photography... :P)

I have noticed often that pictures I took turned out very dark and underexposed (even on several properly calibrated monitors). However, they looked fine on the G1's LCD screen......

Is it a fact that I cannot trust the LCD (even at lowest brightness levels) and must always take care to compensate for the brightness of the LCD?

Do you guys do that?

The Lcd is about a stop brighter than what one gets on the monitor ,so that should allways be taken into account if you rely on it for exposure

I've had my G1 for about a week now. I noticed yesterday that the LCD never shows some of my subjects in focus even though they are in focus when I view the shot I just took. For example, I want to take a photo of a soda can about 8 feet away. I zoom in on the can but the LCD never shows the can in focus. I take the shot anyway. I then look at the picture I just took and the soda can is in focus. I can even read the words on it. What's going on? Is it me, the limitations of the camera or a defective camera?

Half-press the shutter, and the camera autofocus will come into play. Then you'll see the object focused...

... or not, depending in composition :-)

The object has to be centered in the image and in a propper range. Try using macro if it is close and just doesn't show right.

You could also try the manual focus, but in my experience is difficult to use... I can see the image "kinda" focused on the lcd... or definitively out of focus. Maybe a little number telling us the focus range would help??? It's already in the firmware wishlist
