I need some help; I have rented a 5D Mark III for a week and I am having trouble with raw files (.CR2). When I download with Zoombrowser I get both JPG and CR2 files but when I go to Digital Photo Professional (DPP) I can see the JPG files but the CR2 files don't show up with a thumbnail and won't open. If I click on properties all the relevant details of the raw file are there but I can't open an actual CR2 file.

I have a 50D and the CR2 files from it work just fine.

Currently I have version 3.11.4 of Digital Photo Professional on my computer.

What am I missing. Is there a setting in the 5d Mark III that i don't have set correctly? Or is there a different version of DPP that is needed?

Any advice on this situation would be apprecitated

You need to update your copy of DPP. 3.11.10 is the version that added support for the 5DIII.

Keep in mind the 3.11.10 still has issues as well. Update is coming mid-April.

Raw files require up-to-date software to process them. DPP 3.11.10 comes with the camera, but is not "finished" and has not been publicly released.

Photoshop and Lightroom and Apple have put out things that will handle 5D3 Raw files. Otherwise, you'll have to shoot jpeg...

I would suggest downloading the LR 4.1 RC release which is good until June, probably much longer than you will have the rented camera. Although a Release Candidate version, it is stable and safe on my Win 7 64 bit OS.

Thanks again for the advice and comments.

It is a good thing I shot both JPG and CRs files. I have printed a few of the JPGs and the photos are stunning.
