I noticed when using my flash, it's firing on its own. I thought it might be low batteries. But I just got brand new batteries. Has anyone ever experienced this. It sure is annoying.

Any chance you're inadvertently hitting the DOF Preview button on your camera?

Does it this only on the camera? or does it happen even if it is off the camera?

If you're using them off camera and using popular triggers, try changing the channel. Someone in the area might be using the same ones as you, and accidentally setting off yours as well.

So you're saying you have the 580ex directly mounted on top of the camera and it just randomly fires?

If the flash is mounted on the camera when this happens, and it ONLY happens when the flash is on the camera, then it could be dirty hotshoe contacts. Apparently cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser cleans them up nicely.

It happens when the flash is in the hot shoe. I cleaned the contacts with alcohol and it's still happening :(
