A partially leucistic Black Capped Chickadee takes on a whole new persona and had me busy trying to get a decent shot as it foraged along with a dozen or more of its cousins :) A nearby feeder that was being filled by a few folks along the wooded path kept him closeby (off and on). Note the pink legs/feat with some cllaws being white ,.a white head, and beak with many other areas somewhat bleached.

What a pretty little bird, and you got three fine shots of it there Gary. Unrepeatable.

Fascinating Gary and congrats on this huge find!
I could joke that it'd spent too much time out in the sun, but the "bleaching" pattern is uneven. :). Although the majority of expression of leucism is on the head as the throat and bib are almost intact.
I'm excited that you got these fine captures and could share them w/us too. I'll be curious to hear and see any follow up on this phenomenon.

I think Camfan has it; I believe it is leucistic. I can't explain it more then wikipedia can. Here. (external link)

Not to be confused with albinism. They have similarities but are not the same.

Regardless it is a really cool find.

Great shots Gary of a beautiful bird. That snow worries me though as I head back to Ontario later this week. Not as for north as Algonquin though. ;-)a
