Only found one fly on a short sortie. I've also included a rhodadendron bud that I played with levels in PS with, be interested in what you think of it-.

Thanks all for the comments,
I do try to find things other than flies but they seem to follow me around for some reason :) :)
Al- I think smugbug was down for a short while- they are back now.

I like the detail in the bud pic, and another outstanding pic of a fly, Have they been cropped and how much have they been sharpen? Just interested in finding out more about p and p. Thanks.

Both shots are just over 50% of the original pic (sorry I get confused with crop%s)- only did this for framing reasons.
Both were sharpened during RAW conversion (I use C1PRO now) at around 100% but this type of sharpening is minimal compared to USM. May have done a little bit of USM (around 70%, 0.8, 3) can't remember but it's not very much.
The rhodadendron bud did have some levels played with by using the dark sampler, I resampled the image to get it darker and those colours popped out which I liked.
These unprocessed images after RAW conversion will give you an idea.

Thanks Brain V for answering my question, I'm interested because there are so many ways to sharpen photos, and I'm interested in how other people pp, and at the moment I'm learning by trial and error. And reading up on it

Thanks Marie,
You do get long legged flies but not sure this is one of them.

Ah can see now! Like the bud.

I also get confused as how to calculate the crop factor. All I know is if you chop a bit out of an image at full size, folks refer to that as a 100% crop. I'm looking for a mathematical way to determince the crop factor, but keep breaking my head :(

Thanks Al,
I asked a question about crop factors on DPreview, and got such a mess of contradictory answers I don't tend to use it, although most peeps do agree that 100% crop is a crop that has not been re-sized (even then some people said this was the pic as taken but reduced in size for the web).
