Need advice, should I put together a portfolio for a beginner media job?

About a month ago I was emailed a job listing for an entry level media job, nothing too prestigious and it seemed to be gear towards younger, inexperienced folk . The application process was pretty vague too, a basic info sheet with name/address/phone and a small writing bit asking a simple question. I emailed those in and almost immediately scored an interview set for next week.

My question here is, how far should I go with putting a portfolio together? This job is definitely not aimed at experienced applicants but more towards entry level tweens or kids in the early stages of college. The job seems to be about event coverage with video and stills as well as some writing, but beyond that I'm not sure what else it'll be about.

Got any advice?

No, it's legit. A county job.

I say go for it, nothing will replace preparation!

Then yes, by all means do it. Could give you the edge in the hiring process.

It's always good to have a current portfolio put together. Now you have an excuse to do it!

Better to appear over prepared than caught unaware. Job descriptions written for government jobs are intentionally broad and vague, allowing those in charge of filling them latitude to pick the person they want.

The worst part is I've never had the need to put together a portfolio.

Eeek!
