Very impressive & it's understandable that you froze the props but those are a nice catch too.

I am with you. I owned both at the same time (7D and 5d2). The 5d2 was still my camera of choice for everything except birding, b/c of its better image quality (mostly family, landscape, and some studio). the 7D is indeed quite good. However, it does tend to loose focus with busy background. it also could not perform at f8 with TC. my 5d2 had an easier time with a TC.
The 5d3 autofocus I can say is really improved in tracking even over the 7D. I started the thread by mentioning DR and resolution, and I really think those people are right, at least wrt DR. Canon Blew it (they are just behind in sensor technology), and as a landscape shooter, thats frustrating. but in every other way, the camera is just amazing.

Kevin, those are amazing!

My 7D's focus was really nice and was very reliable (all 19 foucs points) with my L and EF-S glasses. The best thing of it was that all focus point were fast, accurate and very reliable. Plus the metering on 7D is more accurate than the older system. But I sold it last year and went for 5DII. This thing is a disappointment in term of focus reliability, operation and performance...This 5DII is just no better than the 5Dc in those departments. well I knew it when I purchased it and I thought I could deal with it as long as the IQ is good. Yes, I am happy with the 5D's IQ, but the more I use the camera, the more I get frustrated about the AF, metering and WB (though WB is not that a big deal when I shoot raw).

To get the best from both worlds... I think I will reconsider to buy the 5DIII...

Amazing shots of the hawk. How was your AF set up for these shots?
/Frode

you know, I was I have written it down, b/c I was experimenting. it was either single point, or single point with 4 expansion, likely the former. I find with busy background, you are daring the camera to loose focus. then on tracking, I was either using option 2 or 5, likely 2. I experimented with both. I wonder if DPP can extract that information (focus it can, I will check and let you know)
Edit. it was single focus

I will guarantee it will work with taped pins. the camera will not attempt autofocus if it knows it is focusing at f8.

Thanks for the test. I need to borrow my coworkers 5dmk3 and do some Rob G kind of tests with someone running at me during evening time and seeing what kind of keeper rate I get when using 70-200m f2.8 IS II and 300mm f2.8 IS.
