I will guarantee it will work with taped pins. the camera will not attempt autofocus if it knows it is focusing at f8.

The non "pro" 1.4 kenko will AF at f8 just so you guys all know. I have used mine on a 400 5.6 and my 100-400 L.

amazon 300 pro DGx (external link) Mine is exactly the same, except it does not have the X. dont know what the difference is. there are several reports of the mc4 that you linked to working well with the 100-400, but not sure.

Yes. That is it. And I use it with my 100-400. Another birder uses it with the 400 5.6

In this picture you can see the group of 3 pins and 5 pins. This means it doesn't report to the camera. On the canon 1.4 and other you need to tape you are taping the 3 pins that are missing. The pins are a group of 3 and a group of 8.

I'm amazed at how well the focusing works on an f8 max aperture lens when you use one of these non reporting tc's. You can do it with a f4 lens. I tried my 500 f4 with a canon 1.4 and the kenko 1.4 and focusing seems good for the 1000mm lens on the 5d3.

Doug
