what are some of the more stable memory card makers out there?

ive used Lexar and Sandisk without any isssues in the past and have had several PNY thumb drives but just wondering what everyone likes?

i found a 16gb Transcend on amazon (dont normally look there, it was link on another site) for $15 which seems pretty cheap. my current Lexars are 8gb and they were $16 on sale...

just wondering...

SD cards by the way not CF...

-im just trying. sometimes i succeed

They're prolly all made in the same Chimese factory, and branded according to whoever orders what. I really don't think it matters..............

I don't think this can be true since some seem to have [Solvable] issues with the newer Lexar USB 3.0 reader and some don't. Not that this bothers me since I'm unlikely ever to use USB 3.0.

For SD cards - I've used Sandisk and PQi. Never had a problem with any of the PQi 8gb and 16gb class 10 cards, I have several. I got them at Meritline.com when they were on sale. The first one (2gb) I picked up was at a Frys store over 10 years ago for a P&S camera, which was when I first heard of the brand and that old card still works.

I have used SanDisk, Lexar, Transcend, Ridata and Silicon Power a fair bit without any problems.

I have used Lexar and Sandisk CF cards a lot. Do not care for the PNY. I do not know why. My wife uses the Sandisk SD cards, and has had no problems.

I've used Sandisk Extreme in the past but have changed to using Lexar Professional (CF and SD) cards. They are just as reliable and typically cost a few dollars less than a comparable Sandisk. The Lexar also comes with free data recovery software. I try to handle my cards carefully and have never had a problem with either brand.

Lexar and Sandisk for me. Check on Adorama and B&H for periodic sales.

I've got a few Transcend cards but I've gone back to Lexar 1000× for the extra speed. It makes a noticeable difference - for me.

Can I ask you where the speed is needed? d/l or buffer or something else? I do kids sports and my buffer holds 90 in the slot, I don't get anywhere near that. JPG of course. Anything I'm shooting with raw I'm not shooting continuous. Just curious, thanks.

Transcend make a very competitive 600x CF card, not so with slower speeds.

I only use RAW and I'm often shooting burst (of wildlife). The 1000× is making a substantial difference.

Even when shooting raw the card speed has virtually zero impact on how many shots you can get in the buffer. It does affect how quickly the buffer clears, up to a point. For the 7D, for example, the limit seems to be around 50-60 MB/s. Anything over that is wasted.
