I have been working a little with a couple of Cactus wireless flash triggers and due to build problems think it is time to move on. My problem is the flash shoe on the receivers come off. I had one replaced, and now have two more that are broken. One was on top of a light stand and as it started to fall I caught it (the stand) and the flash shoe broke – that one I can understand. The other two had the shoe break off as I was putting a flash into the shoe. I know that I was not abusing these two receivers and think it is time to move on to a better-built set of wireless triggers to get away from this problem.

I have read the threads about the Odin, Pocket Wizards, and other assorted wireless triggers and have not noticed any comments about receiver shoe (breaking) problems. I have used wireless triggers for a couple of indoor shoots, but where I really needed them was an outdoor shoot in sunlight. On that shoot there was too much ambient light to set off the slave flashes without the wireless triggers. The flashes that I would be using would be a couple of LumoPros and/or a couple of 580 EX IIs.

I am aware of the advantages of ETTL, problems with some wireless when used with the 580 EX IIs, etc. but am really looking for some suggestions on models that you are pleased with as far as the quality of the build.

Thanks,

Jerry

If your still after hotshoe mounting I would recommed the Strato II. I've written a whole guide here if its any help (noting the Cactus hotshoe problem too) -

The Odins are pretty darn sweet too because you can adjust power levels of the 580's from the camera. They won't help with the Lumopros but you can also use cheaper Strato II receivers with those. Both have just as good hotshoes.

elv,

Thanks for the link (both here and the one you have in the Odin thread). I think I will just get the Odins and give them a try.
