How do the showdowns work? I've had many wins so far but haven't seen any of them in the winners showdowns.

As am I. It's like friggin farmville for photographers! It's taken just a bit to browse around and understand, and then I submitted. The only thing I did not like at all was the fact that I had to log in to see anything at first. Some people (like me) want to kinda browse around, look at a pic or two to see if it's something we would like to join before giving flickr access. But I am glad I did. It's pretty fun!

Yep! Joined last night and already have 4 first. A few in the ultimate showdown. That tells me a lot of you on this forum are not members yet!

Hi Lonnie

Appreciate your time. Yes I can understand that for a few it might be a little frustrating to not get the full picture until you actually authorise Flickr. When building the site I integrated Flickr at quite an early stage and created the Contests home screen with many elements linked into your profile. I.e keeping tracking of which contests you entered and which ones you voted on. To reverse this now would be quite tricky but I am more than happy to give this some thought if others prefer to see and not touch.

Also the site does not have write access to your Flickr account. It only can read so hopefully many will feel comfortable that it's only linking and not taking.

Of course any further suggestions to help improve the site are always welcome. Many features have already been implemented upon the back of suggestions from the community. More will follow soon. The site is a great platform to exposure your pictures to the outside world in a different way.

All the best

Steven

Showdowns are processed every few weeks. Once at least 6 winners of the same category are over a Showdown contest is then born. This will contain 1 or more of your pictures. These are a little tricky to win than the regular contests because they contain 6 winners of the same category. You are then awarded a virtual trophy if you win. Voters get bonus points for predicting the winners.

I plan to do more with the showdown winners soon. I hope this helps but if not give me a shout.

Regards

Steven

Tried it yesterday and got a close second place in underwater life too.
Fun time waster that's for sure.

Steven, although it [write access] would be a great option. I know many of us would love to leave comments on a member's flickr page for the photo in the contest. Actually, I'm not positive you need write access to leave a comment on someone else's photo, but that may be how the API has it set up.

Steven,

You know what I would really like to see? I'd love a way to filter out all of the "Previously Used" photos from the submission screen. By now I have submitted a bunch of photos and have to scroll through page after page to find the right unused image (if I don't know the name of the one I am searching for). And although the site works great on my iPhone, filtering out the "Previously Used" photos would make it so much easier.

Just another 2 cents for you, thanks for all that you've been doing.

Another for the list...

When voting in the "Now taking votes", it would be nice to have a "skip" button when a particular set doesn't fancy you, moving you on to the next.

I was actually thinking of a similir suggestion earlier today when voting. There are some sets that I just don't seem "to get" as much as others and wouldn't mind being able opt out of that category automatically popping up as the next.

I love the feature that you can vote and have another set pop up, but this morning it kept bringing me to the same "next set" and after each set I voted on it automatically brought me back to the same set. I eventually just voted on 2 pictures so I could get on with it, but I would have rathered just passed.

Thanks everyone for your kind feedback which is very useful. The picture submission area does require some refinements. Yesterday on another forum some mentioned about jumping directly to their Flickr Sets to choose a photo. The already submitted photo filter is something which is certainly top of the pile as I also feel it's a pain.

I also had a couple of people on the feedback mention about the skipping of contests. This is a great idea. Going beyond that I think I would probably prefer to tailor it so that you can actually indicate on your profile page which contests you are not interested in voting in. These would then become permanently filtered during the auto voting. Skip would obviously be a useful addition too.

Jason. The Flickr API requires that FlickrAwards has write access to your photographs in order to leave comments on their site. I am presently looking at a way in which members can turn on write access for this to work without upsetting the current flow. Watch this space...

Many thanks everyone. Glad you all like the site and certainly I see many of you are cranking up the wins...

Kind regards

Steven
