When i vote i look at all six images and see which ones grab my attention, if I've seenit before it drops the ranks. and the i look at how subject suitable they are. ie a fence post in a nature scene is an auto disqualification. Finally i look at the technical aspect, composition, pp, what lengths did the op go to in effort to capture the image. If it was all supposed to be based on technical merrits there would be categories "sharpness" "5d3" "L lenses" and "pixle peeping" :D

Of course if I were you guys I'd be complaining more about the guy who keeps entering the same fruit shot, only changing the color of it to suit the contest...

Well at least he is changing the color and not just uploading the same photo and keeps submitting it until it wins.

But we all need to keep in mind, this is all for fun. We all have different tastes and different "techniques" for voting. I've been blessed by some of the photos I've seen, but after a while I too am looking to see something different. BUT different does not equal good, unless it also happens to be good.

Speaking of which, keep up the good work Steven and all those submitting photos!

Well said, and I would have voted of your post (if this forum had voting), but then when I saw it again for the 2nd time I lost interest since I had already seen it once before.

So you guys bias your votes purely on subject matter, and not on the technical merits of the photo?? That kinda defeats the whole purpose of submitting photos, doesn't it? Seems to me like it ruins the point of having contests for the best photos if you're not going to vote on the best photos...

To me, the ones that aren't the same as every other photo, are often the best photos.

The technical merit definitely plays a part most times, but to me, creativity is pretty big too. Again, take a color category for instance. Finding a red flower in your garden isn't very creative. Finding something striking that I wouldn't normally think about when I think about the colour red gets my attention right away, especially when it's in a sea of the-same-but-different flower photos.

But that's just me.

Looks like a lot more friendlier version of the deleteme group on Flickr. And presented much better. I like it!

Thanks Riles. But I think the important thing is that it has it's own database which means that the content can be captured and displayed in a friendlier way. The use of Flickr data is actually quite minimal. Glad you like it... I am continuing to evolve the site through feedback.

Regards

Steven

Congrats on the win.

Cheers mate, posted the entry and then checked the other entrants, when i saw another one of your eagles was thinking there goes another of my meagre Flikr collection down the pan.

Woke up saw my graphics card is fried but my picture on the top winners row, bad start, good ending, now gotta get the warranty fix. but happy as hell, just got to shoot some birds, don't seem to have the same range as you do though ;)

Hi Everyone. As the author of FlickrAwards (external link) it's still going really well and i'm glad people are still enjoying it. We have over 2600 members now and are gradually adding more features and listening to the community to implement more. The reason to why people like the website is because of the turnaround of contests. You don't have to wait too long before results are published. It's really active.

Please do continue to suggest ideas and also our active Facebook (external link) page is a great way to share ideas with the community. Thanks everyone!

Steven
