I had spotted this guy before at a local lake, but it was rather skittish; I shot these from the other side of the (small) lake - they're not 1:1 but not far.

Both are very nice for the distance involved Gerard.
The available light was not your best friend in the 1st capture, although I like the way the plumes are highlighted. I really like the takeoff image in the 2nd. He managed to turn a little more into the light for you and gave you a good look. Very nice timing on that one.

Thanks Steve; I agree as regards the lighting - I like the second shot as well, unfortunately I messed up the subsequent in-flight shots.

Thank you - because of the harsh sun I spot metered on the bird, if not he would have been totally blown out; and then in PP I preferred to keep the background dark on purpose, I prefer the contrast with the Egret that way.
