Your white balance is way off. Allow image editing and I can give you an example.

White balance is off. Shutter speed is too slow. Perspective is not especially exciting.

I mostly shoot VB from the floor, the only stuff I shoot from above is the hitters, and then only about a quarter of that. Check my Zenfolio for VB.

I used the white balance tool in Lightroom and clicked on the grey wall in the background to get, IMO, more realistic colors. I also cropped out the elbow(?) in the upper right of the photo.

These gyms are tough when it comes to geting a proper white balance. I have used Auto ISO, grey cards, the Expodisc, etc.. Since getting Lightroom though, I just shoot in RAW and go from there. I am happy with the results (still a lot to learn :)).

Also, like Jeffrey stated, you will need to up your shutter speed.

At 1/250 you will only be able to capture very boring static volleyball shots. Turn off cloudy white balance. Its screwing you up. I would push the ISO setting up in favor of faster shots unless you want to just photography people holding the ball and no action.

Auto white balance may work, but it will probably be at least a little bit off. Worst part is, it can change from shot to shot. If you shoot in Raw and adjust the white balance in post processing, that won't really matter. Your best bet is to purchase a white balance card (or use a piece of plain white paper - not technically perfect, but it should get you close enough). Consult your camera manual for how to do a custom white balance setting, but the general idea is to place the white paper somewhere on or near the court where the court lighting is going to hit it, take a picture. It doesn't matter if the picture is in focus or not, just make sure no shadows or light reflected off a brightly colored object (like a neon pink jersey) are falling on the paper/WB card. Then, you should be able to go into your menu and use that picture to set a custom white balance.

You chose one of the toughest things to shoot : )

Volleyball in a typically poorly lighted gym.

You got some great advice here. I thought I could do it with a point and shoot camera I had a few years ago. Fortunately I had a enough experience with film back in the day and quickly realized I needed to buy some "big guns" to get any good images.

A pro photographer friend suggested 70-200 2.8L lens and to make a long story shot it was the best purchase I ever made.
