Saturday in the Southern League Division one, South & West. Weather was overcast with rain forecast. Nowhere near perfect but fairly happy with them. I was only there for the second half so not too much time. Really do need a either a 100 - 400 or a 400 lens.

Please have your say, thanks. :D

Good shots. They look a little dark on my screen though.

First time? You nailed the framing perfectly. Didn't chop off any limbs which is a common mistake. Agree with the above poster that they look a little dark but still nice shots.

Thanks, yes they are a little dark, just what I was thinking. Next time I'll go for the whole match and experiment more. This time was more about trying to get players in focus and trying to capture the action. Again thanks for your comments.

About 1/2-1 stop too dark. I hate photographic events in cloudy conditions!

For your next attempt, try kneeling down(sitting on ground, just a kneel stance, bend down so lens is @ their chests) for a few and see what kind of feeling you get for them.

Football ??? ... oooohh - got me ... you mean soccer! :)

Great action ... seems a bit dark and contrasty for me. Like the crops!

I will thanks, the only problem with Saturday was I was behind the wall you can see running round the pitch in the background.

Nah you should have put "Real Football" as the title ;)
I don't mind the yanks messing with the English language but Football.... that's sacred. I think we should kick them out of the British Empire ;)

Football IS British ...
timing seems ok, but avoid wonky horizons/verticals. Get lower. Crop to the action. Fill the frame as much as possible.
Not bad for a first effort. Lens length is debatable. 400 will be too close when the action comes towards you and costs £££. A fast lens is desirable. I shoot with a 70-200 L 2.8 and that restricts me to action in my quadrant of the pitch.
