Seen several mentions of this problem on the web and was wondering if any here may have experienced it. Driving me crazy.

I have tried several different cards ranging from 8GB SanDisk Extreme III, Lexar 16GB Pro 400x to Eye-Fi 8GB. Some SD, some CF and various lens combinations. I have probably seen the error 15 times in the 4 days I have had the camera body.

I used only stock Canon batteries as well. I put in for RMA with B&H, but will have to wait until after Passover to get a reply back.

Having said this, I have shot NHL, MLS and a concert with the new body since I received it Thursday. The results are excellent. (Sans the darn err 80 constantly).

Sounds to me like this may not an isolated problem and may well be something Canon will need to address sooner than later... Pretty frustrating.

I am holding off on a CPS call as my experience with them on my 1D3 early adoption was less than pleasant. The last thing I want to do THIS TIME is send a brand new body back and forth to them for "repair" 3 times when I rely on it for my job.

Hope no one else has to deal with this too.

Andrew

Electrical malfunction.

However, I have been led to believe it's flash card writing related.

No. It just doesn't record the last image and locks up the camera. Must pull battery to reset.

I have the same problem... Roughly 1 in 100 shots will produce the error but it seems totally random. Can get 3 together an not see it again for 300-400 shots. I have been using an EyeFi card... Maybe that's somehow involved?

funnily enouhg i got 2 errors on my mk3 and i thought they were related:

- I am getting corrupted images. This happened with many different CF/SD combinations (including an eyefi, but also sandisk Extreme and ultra2s)
- I got the Err80 when i randomly decided to press the menu button. I wasnt shooting right at the minute... but i did have an eye-fi card here.

The first one is easily reproducible by letting the camera go into auto power off and then wake it but taking a long burst of images.
Af first (in the last 10 mins or so :)) I am trying pressing menu/some other key from auto power off to see if it will trigger the err 80 - maybe this is all connected to the auto power off

Happened to me with Eye-Fi and without... Various cards that are used regularly in a 5D2, 1D3 and 7D as well.. :(

Also, same here.. happens in groups, then may not again for hundreds of shots... Sigh

I guess the new 5D3 and the D800 are both really finicky about the cards they use.

Funny... I did the same thing...And felt similarly... I also disabled my DOF preview button as I know bumping it can cause issues when shooting..

I have taken out my Eye-fi completely... Put in a Kingston 16GB SD and a San Disk Extreme III 8GB CF. Didn't happen to me yesterday at Easter...but I didn't shoot much. Time will tell I guess. I don't have another assignment until Saturday (MLS). Perhaps, I'll get out and just shoot a bunch around the house and report back.

Thanks for the responses...

Still Testing: What image quality settings are your cards set to?

With CF -> RAW and SD ->S2 i can manage to reproduce the corrupted images, but with both set to RAW 2 wierd things happen. 1 - buffer increases! from 7 to 13, and 2 - i can no longer reproduce the corrupted images problem.

From auto-power-off i havent managed to re-trigger the Err 80.

Also are you using the stock 5dmk2 battery or one from your previous 5dmk2/other eos?

I have used both batteries... RAW on CF card and M1 or S1 for SD... OR Only Raw to the CF card and that was it... Still error'd. I did have the Eye-Fi in the SD slot though.
