I too am amazed that such a common bird can be so hard to get posed and exposed properly; and yes, I'm struggling to find one of my own I like. Well done!

Yes, he is often on the ground where the shots are less interesting / more difficult to get, and as I said above I got lucky this one landed on the right spot, on a nice branch and in a good light, not far from me, and remained there long enough to be shot - not to mention I was going back to the car from a session of Hawk-stalking with the camera and 150-500 mounted on the monopod, on my shoulder, ready for action - lucky I'm telling you.
