Hi Zrxpilot,

I am currently in the process of deciding between EOS 350D and D50.
Unfortunately Nikon do not allow non-owners to download manuals so I have not been able to study their offering in as much detail as the Canon. (Seems to me like a bad marketing move on Nikon's part).

Apologies all round for asking a Nikon question on this forum but registering on their site looked a bit daunting - too many questions.

How long can you hold the shutter button in "half pushed" state on the D50?

Before you purchase a d50/70/70s read this.

Actually, another non Canon entry level DSLR worth a look is the Minolta Dynax 5D - it has body integral IS, and spot metering - and it's also cheaper than the 350D/XT. But, I love my 10D and wouldn't get rid of it :)

I hope I can continue to post in this forum even though I bought a Nikon.

Well, I sometimes use my old Nikkors on the 300D & they haven't kicked me out yet!

As my dad used to tell me: Don't go away mad. Just go away.:) (jk)

The thing that I really like about Nikon is that they exist. Competition is what keeps companies on their toes. Canon has a huge market share in cameras, but it's important that the other companies continually challenge Canon's dominance. It benefits us all.

But, bottom line: You shouldagotcanon.

Welcome.

I have been alerted via a private message from another member that the manual in question is in fact available for download from www.nikonusa.com (external link)

My apologies to Nikon for my incorrect statement about their policies.

Perhaps I misunderstood the instructions, but on the other Nikon site I tried appeared to require a product serial number obtain access to the manual.

I would like to thank the member who helped me out and thanks to all involved for this extremely helpful forum.

Welcome to Canon Forums, even if you use a Nikon, this is a great site to learn much about photography. There is another cool site that you can check out and find people using your camera and also get advice and see sample photos that have been posted... BetterPhoto.com, check it out!

I recently posted asking for advice for a first time higher-end camera buyer. Ive learned alot the last couple days. My wife and I went shopping and we tried out a rebel xt, Nikon D70 and D50. With my wifes small hands we chose the smaller, lighter weight Nikon D-50 with the kit lens and an additional 55-200 lens plus a 1gb memory card. The whole package was a 20.00 under budget. I think we made a good choice. Another nice feature was the multiple languages it has. My wife is Korean and myself native American. I hope I can continue to post in this forum even though I bought a Nikon. If anyone thinks this is inappropriate, please post the address of a similar forum.
