5D MKIII replaces EF300mm f/2.8L

After thinking long and hard about where I want to go as a semi-pro, I decided to reduce my motor sport work, which doesn't pay that well considering the time I put in, and get more into weddings, social events, corporate events, etc.

Hence, my much-beloved 300mm f/2.8L is on its way to a new life, and a 5D MKIII is on order, to supplement my 7D. I am also selling my 550D backup body, EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 and EF 135mm f/2.0L in order to buy the 16-35L and 24-70L.

So my new kit list will read: 5D MKIII & 7D bodies, plus 16-35L, 24-70L and 70-200L (and the 1.4x TC MKIII).

Whaddya reckon? Bear in mind I have zero interest in studio work (portaits, families, etc), though I might try my hand at product photos down the line a bit.

Oh, and I have a Nissin Di866 flash, but because I much prefer ambient light photography (one reason behind the 5D MKIII purchase), I hardly use it.

Lot of guys use 70-200 for studio work. It's a great all-around lens. I think you'll be fine.

I think you'll be okay, because I consider the 70-200 f2.8 and 1.4x combo to be a poor man's 300 f2.8

By that I mean, if used in good light, the IQ of the 70-200/1.4x approaches that of the 300 f2.8 ( I own both lenses).

I believe you made a good choice.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I wouldn't sell the 17-55 if you're keeping the 7D.

Too late, it's gone!

Why keep it? I agree that it's a bloody good lens, but I plan to use the 5D with 16-35L for wide-angle work, albeit without IS.

It's clearly a direction you want to go in, what could be wrong with that. You'll be better than you were.
