I had a large pileated woodpecker hop around at the base of a tree about 20 yards from my patio while at home cooking some burgers. The call from one of these is incredible. It sounds exactly like the sound file on Wikipedia except its so much cooler in person. I managed to run inside, grab my camera and fire off a few shots before he flew off. I say he was close, but I still had to crop a lot so the quality isn't the best, but they're my best yet. Enjoy!

Great shot. I was on my way to drop my daughter to School when I saw one in a light post I wanted to pull over but we are running late.
