Composition is great but you need to jack the shutter speed to capture the action more sharply.

Yeah definitely OOF, would just get rid of these even though the time of the capture was good it doesn't really matter when they're not even in focus.

Good action, though focus looks off and as mentioned shutter speed could be raised to freeze the action better.

Probably the lighting reflecting off the red mat.

That doesn't really look like motion blur to me.. More of lens blur, but I suppose it could be. Nice set. Maybe crank the aperture up a bit, I was shooting a karate tournament, and it is very difficult to focus on them when they are moving that fast!

Red mats are a pain, but the cast can be neutralized somewhat in pp.

The second shot is an alright action shot, but it's out of focus (oof), not motion blur.

Shame you either missed the focus or set the ss too low. What lens/settings did you use?

Sorry to Hijack the thread OP but I am sure you can also benefit from this. I am just curious as I am learning to deal with focus especially on fast moving subjects and would like to know the techniques in focusing. I use AI servo 500-1000 shutter speed, and I can get correct exposure but often miss focus. I am wondering if its timing issue with me or do most of you guys set focus on a particular place on field and hope to get the perfect focused player/subject?

Thank you.

Once you understand why you set your camera to AI servo you will have answered your own question.

I do. Many don't, with varied results.
