if that's a 100% crop then i think it looks fine...noise isn't determined by the lens

Is this taken with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM or the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM?

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

you're not going to see much of a difference between it and the 55-250IS...they should be pretty near the same...

you'd loose 100mm...set the lens at 200mm, and see what you think...the thing i'd be more concerned about is the loss of IS...

what are you trying to gain over you 55-250IS? that'll lead you to what lens suits you more...

1/160th at 300 mm: this may be your problem. Even with IS, you should be trying for higher shutter speeds. Increase your ISO a bit, choose a subject with better contrast, and try again. As an aside, I used to own the 70-300 non-IS and found it to be a bit soft at 250 to 300 mm. However, it was very sharp through the rest of the range.

Well, I shot alot of birds. I bought the 70/300 along with my 60D from Dell. I kinda feels like the same against the 50/250.

for birds...reach is valuable...something like a sigma 150-500OS is a good budget friendly way to go long...also a canon 400L is a good one as well...basically you'll need reach...a 70-300IS isn't much of an upgrade over the 55-250IS, and in my opinion isn't worth the extra money(i own one though)
