3rd Party Flashes

I have some AB's I haven't used in years, but I'm thinking about getting back into doing some fitness portrait work again, in addition to all the stage work that keeps me busy most of the year.

I don't want to lug around strobes and my vagabond everywhere, so instead I'm thinking of just using my 430EX, STE2 (or maybe another wireless transmitter for radio if there is such a thing that works with Canon), and maybe another flash for times when the sun isn't available for rear rim lighting.

I really like what Peter does with a couple flashes and a beauty dish (I'm getting an Aurora Firefly).

What's new with the YN flashes? I haven't done any research on them in years but I tend to read a lot of conflicting information. Any info would help.

I'm running 4 yongnuo yn-460II's right now on Cactus V5 triggers and I've had no problems. I've done about 1000 pops on them and their still running well. I think i'm going to get the TTL version to play around with on camera. I look at them as disposable / occasional / remote use flashes nothing more. They fill my Cheetah Qbox 24 boxes very well at 1/2 power and so far consistent.

I shoot 460ii and 560. Hundreds of pops and no issues. The 560 is the same size as a 580EX, has a zoom head, a better battery door, and audible recylce tone. There is a 560ii out as well. I have found them both to be really great bargains (bought my 1st 460ii close to 2yrs ago I believe).

I've been using yongnuo flashes for over three years - YN460 - YN465

I am using 2 Canon 580's and 2 Yongnuo 565-EXs and can not tell the difference between them except for the price. I may never buy another Canon flash again.

I love my 565 EX..... definitely not lighting to a high level, but it never fails to pop on camera or off

No, they don't support high speed sync. Just use an ND filter on your lens and you'll be fine. I love the YN565's. I have 3 of them lol.

No HSS on the Yongnuos.
