so bad weekend last week resulted in sending in two lenses, one to sigma, and one to canon. Canon was out of warranty, so I received an email this morning telling me the costs. I paid, and it should be back in a week.

With Sigma, my lens is under warranty, so there should be no payment needed. Sigma also doesn't have the helpful online form to fill out like canon so you can see the progress. So i know they got my lens yesterday. I'm curious do they call/email you to let you know of the progress or are you supposed to call them to find out any info. I'm curious as to how long it is going to take.

So any experience with Sigma service centers? I also used the one in AZ if that matters.

My experience with Sigma NY was no communication whatsoever, I just got lens back 2 weeks later with some brief note (performed AF electrical adjustment) that had nothing to do with the problem I had.
So yes, if you want to get any sort of status, call.

I just had a Sigma serviced at criscam. After they had it for about a week I emailed them asking the status and got a reply the same day back from them. You'll get a customer number, and work order number from them. Once you have those you can log in to their system to get updates. There's also a box where you can email them questions or comments. Turn around is going to depend on parts availability. I got delayed for a couple of weeks waiting for parts, but after they got the part I had the lens in about a week.

What was wrong with your Canon lens? And how much did it cost?

my 40D with my 35 f2 attached fell...the lens stopped focusing, and also wouldn't manual focus either...it'll be $120 fixed and shipped back to me...

thanks for the other comments...I'll probably wait until middle of next week, and either call/email if i haven't heard anything

well they actually did call me...but apparently can't fix the lens there, and have to send it off to NY...so we'll see what happens...either way i'm most likely going to be renting either the 100-400L or 400L if it doesn't come back within a couple of weeks
