Thinking about getting the 1542 for hiking. Can't go anywhere to check it out and was wondering if using the Arca Swiss would be to big for that tripod.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Nikon D850 and a bunch of stuff, I have learned a lot here when I was shooting Canon, staying to keep learning..."Every time I set up I learn something new".

Well obviously the Z1 will go on the 1542 and work but it's a little heavy for it and it will overhang the tripod base by quite a bit. The Markins Q3 is a good fit for the 1542 in terms of size.

Or the really light P0(11oz) from Arca-Swiss. Smaller lighter and stronger.
Also quicker to use and with top pan as well.

I used my Z-1 atop my 1541 while awaiting arrival for my Markins Q3. It worked but it was top heavy.

IMO its way too heavy for traveler legs like that. What you want is the Markins Q3T for those legs. Very similar setup to my review here: LINK

The p0 has a 64mm OD so it's unsuitable for small tripod bases.

With the 1542 you don't really need a Markins Q3T as you don't have to fold the legs back over the ballhead with that model, so a ballhead with a slightly larger housing/panning base diameter is OK. The Q3 has a proper engraved panning base that is 56mm in diameter, and the RRS BH-40 has a bigger 40mm ball and a smaller panning base of 53mm, so that's even better. The BH-40 also has a lower center of gravity because of it's squat design.
