IMHO, the outgoing 5D2 was really a 5D with a 1Ds III sensor [PERIOD].
The 5D3 is really the 5D2. ill shut up and grab my popcorn now.

But you have a point, makes no sense to update a model line and make minimal changes which leaves much to be desired.
