Warning - stupid question follows:

I use the Spyder3Elite V4 unit for profiling my iMac 27" i7 system running Lion.

I just decided to try DPP again - been using LR4 - and my monitor profile doesn't show up in the drop down. The profile on the DPP screen is an older Spyder2Express profile and that doesn't even show up in the drop down.

What am I missing? DPP is the current version as of yesterday.

Update: If I open CS5 and try soft proofing I can see the monitor profile. I can also see it in the soft proof function of LR4.

So, when you are in the Preferences/Color Management section and for Monitor Profile and click Browse, are you saying the profile doesn't show up?

Are the profiles saved in the ~\Library\ColorSync\Profiles folder or the Macintosh HD\Library\ColorSync\Profiles folder?

Tony and Rene - thanks for responding.

I think I've figured it out.

The file created by the Spyder3 software is a system file and on Lion system files are hidden. It would appear that the 'Finder' window in DPP can't see the hidden profile.

Last night I spent some time researching Finder and hidden/system files (I'm somewhat new to OS X). Turns out I can tell Finder to include System files in a search. I tried the same process on DPP and the profile shows up and I can load it. But it's not quite that simple. You have to enter a search argument in the DPP Finder window and change the search parameters from 'Kind' to 'System Files'.

And the profile appears to be in my user Library, which also appears to be hidden.

A couple of screen shots - first from the DPP Finder window and the second showing the path DPP displays after the profile is selected.

Now I've forgotten why I wanted to try DPP again in the first place....

But I'm sure that will come back to me some time today.

I had to write a procedure on how to find that. It was a nightmare the first time I tried.

One of the best ways to get something into your head is to figure it out yourself.

And I only posted this late last night...at least I have confirmation that I'm not working on some aberrant system that causes problems that no one else experiences.

And that's good.

That is true. When I prepared for my first wedding I took a lighting course. Right after that I facilitated 3 flash workshops for local camera clubs. I figured the best way to remember something was to teach it.
