Just thought I would share my experience of modifing a Canon G2. My friend and I did this a few months ago. For images on the mod see: http://www.primaveraphoto.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5 (external link)

Cheers.

You posted some interesting photos, thank you. I always enjoy looking inside electronic equipment.
Was the clear window glass good enough to replace the IR blocking filter?
Is the autofocus OK after the replacement?
Can you see an improvement in IR photography after the modification?

Here's an interesting site that's topical to this thread. I was thinking about getting a cheap G5 (I'm a previous owner, and it's a great camera) to modify as a full-time IR camera. The advantage to the method performed by Lifepixel is that the LCD can still be seen and shutter speeds are similar to visible-light photography. Either that, or perhaps a cheap D60, so I'd be able to use my EOS lenses.

Lifepixel's site looks good. But if they're getting a plug you'll hopefully excuse me for plugging my own conversion service. ;)

I usually replace the original IR-cut filter with an 87C-equivalent, although I do have some stock of 89B filters (equivalent to the external Hoya R72) if that is your taste. These filters are optical glass BTW (although the first conversion I did years ago [on a Nikon 950] was done with window glass sandwiched with a piece of Lee 87 polyester).
I find in my own photography that having a compact camera with integrated IR filter is very convenient.

If you check out the above link you'll see there's a fairly large list of models I convert. It includes all the G-series cameras, as well as the S30 thru S70.

BTW Prima, nice work on the photos!
