Mystery Caterpillar...

I am wondering what this is, can anyone identify this caterpillar(?) for me please? (I almost thought it was a leach at first, [which we do have] until I touched it [gently] it was not wet, and it was 'very soft')
This is in Texas, and this is in my backyard pond, in filtered light, and this critter is lying on cypress tree "knees", it was there for a few days, that is, until I took the picture, he left the next day. This is not a great picture, I just saw this and quickly got a couple of shots to document it, and not very good at that. heheh
