From this I would guess either try a different battery or check that the power switch is ok. I'm sure a camera store would lend you their battery to try before you have to buy a new one Photography is the art of exclusion

Take the battery out, and let it reset. If it happens again, call the Canon Service Center for advice. Suzie - Still Speaking Canonese!

Try to disable the custom function for sensor cleaning. I think the picture will still not get taken. My guess at what is happening is that once you press the shutter button, the camera will turn on motors and electronics which will momentarily draw down the voltage level of the battery or internal capacitors. If this voltage level drops too low, it might trigger the camera to turn off instead. Photography is the art of exclusion

Apr 15, 2012 12:37 | #6 hmm...might be doing a quick power cycle, off, sensor clean, on. take both the batteries out and after putting them back in see if this happens. If it does, it needs a trip to Canon.
